EXHIBITION IN THE AGRUPACIÓN ARTÍSTICA ARAGONESA (november 16th till december the first of 2006)
SANTIAGO RIOS “DIBUJOS Y PINTURAS FROM CASSICAL MUSIC”
In this exhibition I presented 40 paintings that had been inspired by my attendance to classical music concerts, mainly at the Auditorium of Zaragoza. I would like to thank the Philharmonic Society of Zaragoza, which, in the year of its 100th anniversary, sponsored the catalogue for this exhibition.
Roughly half of the paintings were original ink drawings made on the concert programs, many of which have been published in Heraldo de Aragón in order to illustrate the music reviews. Some of the drawings have been digitally treated and printed on different types of paper, which must be thick enough so as to allow me to colour them using ink, watercolour, gouache or oil. Sometimes it is listening to music, particularly contemporary music, that inspires me to make abstract drawings on paper. After digital treatment, I print them on a canvas and I finish them with oil while I am in my studio listening to the same music which moved me to create the original drawing.
The review for this exhibition was written by Angel Azpeitia and it appeared in Heraldo de Aragón of 23rd November 2006. (See translation into English).
